How to make “Kibidango”(Japanese Sweet Dumpling)

Grade ONE students made “Kibidango” that appears in a Japanese folk tale called “Momotaro-Peach boy”.
Here are some photos from the cooking lessons and recipes at the end!

Here is the recipe and ingredients!

We used “Glutinous rice flour” instead of “Mochiko”.
You can buy it in any Asian grocery shops. It costs about only $1!

 

Sweet Soy Sauce
Everybody loved "Mitarashi sauce" - sweet soy sauce!

Ingredients

  • 5 Tbsp. sugar (adjust sweetness to your liking)
  • 1 Tbsp. soy sauce
  • 4 Tbsp. water
  • 1 Tbsp. corn starch
  • 1 Tbsp. water for dissolving corn starch

1. Combine sugar, soy sauce and water in a saucepan. Stir occasionally and bring it to a boil.
2. Once it boils, add the corn starch and water mixture to the sauce and make sure it dissolves well. After the sauce thickens, turn off the heat.

      The song is called “Ton Ton Ton Ton Hige Ji-san (Grandpa with beard).
      Prep, Grade 1 & 2 can sing it really well!
